Spotlight on: Self-Care
We hear the phrase self-care thrown around all the time, but what is does it really mean? Self-care is described as a conscious act one takes to promote their own physical, mental and emotional health.
Improving our well-being all begins with self-care, as like the famous saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”. Practicing self-care teaches us what we need, to be the best version of ourselves. So, how can we ensure we’re implementing self-care techniques into our lifestyle? We have noted some examples below:
Physical
We may sound like a broken record, but moving your body and having a good night’s sleep is proven to improve our overall well-being. By doing this regularly and routinely we are looking after ourselves.
Emotional
It is important for us to take the time out to reflect on our emotional needs and wants. Take the time to reflect on your own feelings and be aware of any boundaries that you may need.
Social
Surrounding yourself with supportive people will ensure that you are not in situations whereby you do not feel heard. It is important that we make our needs known to those around us and ask for help when required.
Professional
Ensuring that we have clear set boundaries at work, take our lunch breaks daily and ensuring we don’t feel the need to say ‘yes’ when we are already overwhelmed with work duties.
All of the examples above are achievable. It is up to our individual self to implement these techniques, and we encourage you to do so! If you need support in self-care we are here to guide you.
