Do You Ever Feel Working From Home Can Be Like Groundhog Day?

5 Tips to help you overcome that repetitive feeling!

Groundhog Day was a term coined famous by the movie of the same name in 1993. Bill Murray who starred as the lead character, experienced the same day over and over again.  In the last twelve months, it has become all too familiar for some of us to be feeling like every day is Groundhog Day.

It includes that feeling of not wanting to get out of bed, constant fatigue, lack of motivation, and disinterest in activities we once enjoyed. When we feel like this we are left asking ourselves, “When are things go to change?”, “What do I want to do”, “How have I become like this?”

We can fall into a pattern of unhelpful thinking and have difficulty in overcoming these thoughts. Fortunately, there are practices we can implement which can help us to break the cycle. Below are 5 things to try to overcome the feeling of Groundhog Day:

1. Move Your Body

Get moving. Take breaks when required and ensure that you implement exercise into your daily routine.

2. Make a list

At the start of the day make a to do list of tasks that need to get done. As they are completed tick them off.

3. Set Short-Term Goals

Long-term goals can give us a sense of excitement, but can also make us feel overwhelmed when first tackling them. By setting short-term goals we are able to have small achievements along the way which will lead to completing our long-term goals.

4. Celebrate Wins

No matter big or small, there’s always time for us to celebrate when a job has been done well. Celebrating yourself and your work motivate you to keep going.

5. Review Your Habits

Each week make time to reflect on what’s working and what isn’t.

At the end of the movie, Groundhog Day ends and the cycle of the same day repeating over and over ends. Bill Murray’s character says, “Today is tomorrow! It happened!”. By following these tips you too can overcome the cycle. If you want to talk to a professional about how you’re feeling click here.
